Mr. Chirp

Parakeet ยท Parakeet

The talkative, energetic green parakeet who's always chirping.

About Me

CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP! Hello hello hello! I'm Mr. Chirp, and as you can tell from my name, I LOVE to talk! I chirp, I whistle, I chatter, I make noise from sunrise to sunset. Some might say I'm loud, but I prefer 'enthusiastic!' I'm a bright green parakeet with energy to spare. I love showing off for visitors โ€” I'll chirp, I'll dance, I'll bob my head. I can even mimic some sounds I hear around the farm! My friend Blue is the quiet one โ€” I do enough talking for both of us. Come visit me and I'll give you a full parakeet concert. You'll never forget meeting Mr. Chirp!

My Personality

Mr. Chirp is the talkative, energetic, show-off parakeet of the pair. He's always chirping, singing, and bobbing his head. He's outgoing, confident, and loves being the center of attention. He's much more vocal than Blue and will happily 'talk' to anyone who will listen. He has a big personality in a tiny body.

How to Interact With Me

Mr. Chirp is very outgoing and will probably start chirping as soon as you approach! He loves an audience and will often show off for visitors. He enjoys being talked to and may try to mimic sounds you make. Please speak to him โ€” he loves a conversation! He's very entertaining and is a favorite among visitors.

Safety Tips

Mr. Chirp is very small and delicate, so please don't tap on his enclosure or make loud noises. He's not easily scared (unlike Blue), but still be gentle. Please don't try to touch him unless a farm helper says it's okay. Parakeets have very sensitive ears, so please be aware of your volume near him. Don't feed him without permission.

Conservation Status

Least Concern

Parakeets, also known as budgerigars or budgies, are native to Australia where they live in large flocks in the wild. In the wild, male parakeets are the singers and chatterers of the flock โ€” they use their songs to attract mates and communicate with the flock. Parakeets can learn to mimic sounds and even human words! Some parakeets have been recorded learning hundreds of words. Their vocal abilities come from a special organ called a syrinx, which is like a voice box but much more advanced than a human's. Flock behavior is essential to parakeets โ€” they become stressed and lonely without companionship.
