Midnight
Chicken ยท Hen
The mysterious dark hen who roosts highest in the coop.
About Me
Hello... I'm Midnight. I'm the darkest hen in the coop โ my feathers are so dark they look like the night sky, which is how I got my name. I'm a quiet, mysterious hen who likes to observe from the shadows. I'm not shy, exactly โ I'm just... mysterious. I like to roost in the highest spot in the coop where I can see everything. Some of the other hens think I'm a little spooky, but I'm actually very sweet once you get to know me. I just prefer the quiet life. If you look closely, you might spot my dark feathers gleaming in the light. Come find me โ if you can!
My Personality
Midnight is the quiet, mysterious hen of the flock. She's observant, calm, and prefers to watch from a distance rather than be in the middle of the action. She's not shy โ she's just content in her own company. She roosts high and has a regal, mysterious air about her that makes visitors curious to spot her.

Safety Tips
Midnight is very gentle but reserved. Please don't chase her or try to grab her โ she prefers her personal space. If she's roosting, let her rest. Observe her quietly and enjoy her mysterious beauty. Don't feed her without permission.

Conservation Status
Common
Chickens are descendants of the wild red junglefowl from Southeast Asia, domesticated over 8,000 years ago. Some chicken breeds have dark feathers, dark skin, and even dark bones โ like the Ayam Cemani from Indonesia, which is entirely black inside and out! Dark-feathered chickens are often more camouflaged at night, which helps protect them from predators. Chickens roost (sleep) on elevated perches at night to stay safe from ground predators. The darker a chicken's feathers, the more sunlight they absorb, which can help keep them warm in cool weather.
