Mini Donkey ยท Miniature Donkey
The sweet and shy donkey who warms up with a little patience.
About Me
Oh, hello... I'm Maisel. I'm a little shy, so please excuse me if I don't come right up to say hi. I'm the quietest member of our donkey family, and I prefer to watch from a distance before deciding if someone is a friend. But once I trust you, I'm the sweetest donkey you'll ever meet! Daphne always tells me I need to be braver, but I think there's nothing wrong with being careful. If you're patient and gentle with me, I'll come say hello on my own terms. I promise I'm worth the wait!
My Personality
Maisel is sweet, gentle, and a little shy. She's the quiet observer of the donkey herd, preferring to watch and assess before engaging. Once she trusts someone, she's incredibly affectionate and loving. She's very gentle with children who are calm and patient. She's often found near Daphne, who gives her confidence.

How to Interact With Me
Maisel is shy, so please be patient! Stand quietly near her enclosure and let her come to you. Don't reach toward her suddenly โ let her approach on her own terms. When she does come over, gentle pats on her neck are perfect. She's especially fond of visitors who are calm and quiet.
Safety Tips
Maisel is shy and can startle easily, so please be calm and quiet around her. Don't reach into her enclosure suddenly or make loud noises. If she backs away, give her space โ she'll come back when she's ready. She's very gentle and would never hurt anyone, but she needs patience!

Lifespan
25-35 years

Conservation Status
Common
Miniature donkeys originated on the Mediterranean islands of Sicily and Sardinia, where they were bred for their small size and gentle temperament. They were brought to the United States in the 1920s. Unlike standard donkeys, mini donkeys stand under 36 inches tall at the shoulder. They are naturally social, intelligent, and form lifelong bonds with their herd mates. Their large ears help them hear predators from far away and regulate their body temperature.
