Jake
Chicken ยท Rooster
The proud, loud, and protective king of the chicken coop.
About Me
COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO! That's me, Jake, the proudest rooster in all of Indiana! I'm the king of the chicken coop, the guardian of the flock, and the loudest animal on this entire farm. My job is very important: I wake everyone up in the morning, I keep watch for danger, and I make sure all my hens are safe and happy. I take my job VERY seriously. Some people think I'm bossy, but I prefer 'protective.' I crow at sunrise, at noon, at sunset, and honestly whenever I feel like it โ it's my coop and I'll crow if I want to! Come visit me and I'll show you what a real rooster looks like. Just don't mess with my hens!
My Personality
Jake is proud, loud, and fiercely protective of his flock. He carries himself with confidence and authority, strutting around the coop like he owns the place (which, in his mind, he does). He takes his role as protector seriously and is always on alert. Despite his tough-guy act, he's not aggressive toward visitors โ he just wants everyone to know who's in charge.

How to Interact With Me
Jake is proud and confident, and he'll probably strut his stuff when you visit. He may crow to announce your arrival โ that's his way of saying hello! Please admire him from a respectful distance. He's protective of his hens, so don't chase or grab at any of the chickens. He's not aggressive, but he takes his job seriously!
Safety Tips
Jake is a rooster and he's protective of his hens. Please don't chase, grab, or corner any of the chickens. Observe Jake from a respectful distance โ he's not mean, but he may get defensive if he feels his flock is threatened. Don't feed the chickens without asking a farm helper first!
Did You Know?
Roosters perform a special dance called 'tidbitting' to show hens where food is โ they make a clucking sound and pick up and drop the food.

Common
Chickens are descendants of the wild red junglefowl from Southeast Asia, domesticated over 8,000 years ago. Roosters are male chickens known for their loud crowing, which they use to communicate with their flock and mark their territory. A rooster's comb (the red crest on his head) and wattles (the hanging skin under his beak) help regulate his body temperature. Roosters are protective of their hens and will alert them to danger, find food for them, and even fight predators to keep them safe. Chickens are highly social and have a 'pecking order' that keeps the flock organized.
